Buttercup
Buttercup is from Jackson, WY
I met Buttercup this summer in Jackson, WY when her owner brought her in for a portrait session. I was immediately taken with this charming cutie. Here is her amazing story.

"I will never forget the day I first saw Buttercup. It was three years ago and I was walking out of a friends office and I saw another friend getting out of his truck with the cutest dog, somehow I just knew she was meant for me! It was her first day in Jackson and it was love at first sight.

She had been rescued (by a local woman who does alot of rescue work and was vacationing in Florida) from a kill shelter in Miami, just hours before she was scheduled to be euthanized. My friend was watching her for the day and I asked if I could foster this cute dog (called Rosemary then) for a couple of days to see if we liked each other! She had a cold but I got the OK and was given "Rosemary" for a weekend of fun. Within 24 hours it became very apparent that what she had was far worse than a cold. I took her to the emergency room where the vet immediatly put her in quarentine, sprayed the room with bleach and then did the same to both of us! He suspected, and later confirmed, that "Rosemary" had canine influenza (highly contagious) and pneumonia! Her prognosis was uncertain.

The doctor also told me that she had a severely deformed front leg and would, at some point, require surgery. Knowing that she would need very extensive care I adopted her right away and told the vet to do everything possible. I also changed her name to Buttercup! She was such a trooper, she quickly became a mascot at the hospital. Some of my friends would even drop by the hospital to give her love and attention! Buttercup is so loving and sweet, she has the most gentle, kind personality. She is always ready to be on your lap or curled up next to you in bed. She just wants to be right next to you all the time but not in a needy way. She is just there when she senses its time for a cuddle! Being stuck in the hospital cage was terrible for her. A very long two months later she was released from the hospital, having fully recovered, and came home to meet her new brother and sister! Two Labs!! I was kind of worried but Buttercup can really hold her own! At first, the Labs were pretty uncertain but she soon won them over. Buttercup has no sense of boundaries and she would just crawl into their beds with them and make herself at home! Even when they growled she just melted them with affection and that sweet face! They soon gave in and are now inseparable, never even in a different room! Always together! Swimming, hiking, playing fetch! She keeps right up and, so far, her leg is fine! Since she is not shy about letting you know its time for breakfast..... hers is usually the first face I see in the morning! Each day starts with a smile and just gets better from then on! She is the funniest dog I have ever known! I often think how lucky it was that I was in the right place at the right time, three years ago . That I saw her first and everything else just fell into place. None of us has been the same since Buttercup!"
